Paul Smith is the head coach. A former player, captain and assistant coach Paul has helped the Jets become one of the premier basketball clubs in the UK winning 8 national titles along the way. This is no mean achievement for the Chester based club who regularly compete against clubs from major urban conurbations such as Newcastle, Sheffield and Glasgow.
In addition to a strong sporting background Paul also has a wealth of experience in the corporate world. As the creator of the Winning Edge presentation and the ‘Action focussed’ series of management programmes Paul regularly designs and delivers to an impressive list of clients who use him regularly to inspire, motivate and develop their people.
Peter Hawkins led the team who rescued The Jets from extinction in 2007. In a supporter led initiative he put together a credible business proposal which convinced The British Basketball League to transfer the failed franchise across to the new company. In 2009 Peter established Jets Foundation as a registered charity
The Foundation utilises sport and iconic professional sportsmen as an engagement tool for young people in order to improve their health, raise their ambition and contribute to the community they are growing up in. This year The Foundation will engage over 10,000 people across Cheshire, The Wirral and North Wales. Prior to coming up with the hair brain idea of running The Jets, Peter worked for Hazlewood Foods PLC latterly as MD of the chilled food division.
In 2002 he was part of a 2 man team who led a bank funded management buyout of Pann Krisp, a £30m turnover Hazlewood subsidiary employing 600 people; following a successful 3 years they sold the business to a trade buyer in 2005 and was thus looking forward to the next stage of his career….the rest, as they say, is history!
